Scrushy Attorney Blames Fraud On Subordinates

Birmingham, AL – An attorney for former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy says the accounting fraud at the rehabilitation chain was perpetrated by subordinates and not Scrushy.

Attorney Jim Parkman in closing arguments Tuesday asked Jefferson County Circuit Judge Allwin Horn to rule in favor of Scrushy in a lawsuit filed by HealthSouth shareholders. The suit asks that Scrushy be ordered to pay $2.6 billion for allegedly leading a conspiracy to defraud investors and reaping millions from sweetheart deals.

Horn heard the case without a jury.
