Residents Receive FEMA Assistance Following Storms

Montgomery, AL – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has released more than $1 million for individual assistance in recovering from tornadoes and flooding during May 6-8 storms in Autauga, Elmore and Montgomery counties.

FEMA initially denied the tri-county group's application for individual assistance, but then reversed that decision after continuing the preliminary disaster assessment at the request of Gov. Bob Riley.

FEMA issued the declaration for individuals Friday, one day after wrapping up the assessment.

By Wednesday, 871 persons had registered for assistance. State and federal officials urge anyone affected by the storms in the three counties to register with FEMA for assistance.
