Huntsville, AL – An Alabama company and its partners have won a military contract worth as much as almost $6 billion for work in Afghanistan.

The Huntsville-based Taos Industries will provide U.S. bases with services including electricity, water, waste management, laundry and food under the deal, which is worth $643 million in the first year.

The contract announced Monday has four one-year options that could increase its total value to $5.9 billion dollars.

Taos is working on the contract with two other companies, DynCorp International and CH2M Hill. The three companies previously did similar work in Kuwait for the U.S. military.
