Mayor: Alabama to North Carolina Corridor Is Next Big Growth Area

By Associated Press

Charlotte, NC – The mayors of two major Southeastern cities are finishing their talks about the formation of a megaregion that would stretch from North Carolina to Alabama.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin will hold a news conference Wednesday to discuss their two-day conference. The meetings have brought together officials from energy, transportation and environmental sectors to identify issues and opportunities in the area.

The region spreading from Raleigh to Birmingham, Ala. is expected to be one of the nation's fastest growing metropolitan areas. McCrory said in a statement that officials must begin the process of planning for that growth now.
