Presidential Math And Science Winner: Melinda Storey

By Alis Beckwith-Ayilliath

Tuscaloosa, AL – One of the most prestigious teaching awards in the field of math and science is the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Two Alabama teachers were recently named as 2008 winners. Reporter Alisa Beckwith-Ayilliath recently spoke with honoree Melinda Storey, a teacher at Mountain Brook Elementary School.

Storey is one of only 87 teachers nationwide to receive this award. Madison Crossroads Elementary School teacher Haley James is the only other Alabama honoree. Winners receive an expense paid trip to Washing D.C. and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
