Montgomery, AL – Alabama health officials say providers are expected to get some 30,000 doses of swine flu vaccine this week but it probably will be next month before vaccination clinics at K-12 schools will be in operation.
State Health Officer Donald Williamson said at a news conference Thursday that 5,300 doses of the nasal spray vaccine have been recieved by providers in Alabama and another 24,000 doses shipped Thursday should arrive by Friday.
Children 6 months to 2 years old, pregnant women and patients with asthma are among those who cannot take the nasal spray. Alabama does not expect to get a large shipment of injectable vaccine until late October. Health officials say injectable vaccine is appropriate for all patients except babies under 6 months old.
