Montevallo, AL – The American Village and Shelby County plan to partner in constructing a more than $6 million replica of Independence Hall.
Design work on the project is expected to begin next year and bids are slated to go out in 2011. The hall would house the stories of veterans from Alabama and across the nation. A colonial coffee house is projected to be built around the same time near a soon-to-be opened visitors center. Executive director Tom Walker said construction could be funded by a 50-cent increase in the cost of driver licenses and non-driver identification cards, which went into effect in July.
