Montgomery, AL – The Christmas tree that will take center stage at the state's annual tree lighting ceremony will arrive at the state Capitol on Monday.
In a press release, Gov. Bob Riley says the tree is a 40-foot tall Eastern Red Cedar. It will be decorated with thousands of lights for the annual tree lighting celebration, held this year on Dec. 4 at 5:15 p.m.
The Garden Club of Alabama sponsors the annual Christmas tree lighting celebration. Following the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, there will be a Christmas parade down Dexter Avenue in Montgomery that begins at 6:00 p.m.
Two 12-foot tall Deodora Cedar trees also will be decorated and placed inside the Capitol. In a first, both trees will be planted on the Capitol grounds after the Christmas season is over.
