Montgomery, AL – Members of the state Senate's Democratic Caucus say they want to pass legislation banning no-bid state contracts except in emergencies.
State Sen. Lowell Barron of Fyffe said Tuesday Republican Gov. Bob Riley's administration has issued $2.6 billion in unbid contracts and that's excessive.
A spokesman for the governor questions whether the Democrats are serious. But he says that if they are serious about banning all no-bid contracts, including their own, then the governor will sign the bill into law.
