GOP Candidate Dill Drops Out Of Ala. House 40 Race

Montgomery, AL – Republican candidate Jay Dill of Jacksonville has dropped out of the GOP runoff in a special election for the Alabama House District 40 seat in Calhoun County. That leaves K.L. Brown of Jacksonville as the lone Republican candidate.

Party officials say they plan to ask the Secretary of State's office to certify Brown as the primary winner without a runoff. Brown had received 46 percent of the vote to just 20 percent for Dill in the primary.

The seat was made vacant by the death of Democratic Rep. Lea Fite.

If approved by the Secretary of State, the general election will be held Feb. 16 between Brown, Democratic nominee Ricky Whaley and independent Carol Hagan.
