Auburn President's Income Ranks In Top Ten Nationally

Birmingham, AL – A national trade publication has ranked Auburn University President Jay Gogue among the 10 highest-paid public college CEOs for the first time.

On a list released Monday, the Chronicle of Higher Education ranked him ninth nationally among public college administrators for his 2008-2009 academic year income of $727,761.

The previous academic year his salary ranked 12th.

The upward move was a result of retirements that took some names off the list.

The presidents of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Alabama and the University of Alabama System got no raises for the second consecutive year. Still, the presidents of UA and UAB were in a tie for 26th place in the ranking, and the president of the UA System was 24th.

The Chronicle surveyed 185 public universities for its report.
