Mobile, AL – Snow is forecast for Alabama, and it is expected to show up as far south as Mobile, where schools will be closed Friday in anticipation of snowy weather.
The National Weather Service in Mobile says a mix of rain and sleet on the Alabama coast will give way Friday to snow. Mobile meteorologist Don Faulkner predicted 1 to 3 inches in Mobile and 3 to 5 inches in counties to the north.
Weather officials say 1 to 2 inches can be expected in the Birmingham area on Friday, and 2 to 4 inches are possible across central Alabama. A winter storm watch is in effect from midnight Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday for that area and parts of south Alabama.
School officials announced that classes were being called off Friday in Mobile and Baldwin copunties, and many athletic events were being canceled.
