Montgomery, AL – The Alabama House has taken another step to make it harder for methamphetamine producers to get the ingredients they need by buying common cold medicines, like Sudafed.
Alabama has a law that requires cold medicines containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine to be stored behind the counter and limits customers from buying more than 6 grams in a 30-day period.
The House on Tuesday voted 92-0 for a bill that requires stores to record the information on sales on a statewide database to prevent a person from going from store to store to stockpile the drugs.
The bill was sponsored by Democratic Rep. Frank McDaniel of Albertville. McDaniel sponsored the original bill controlling sales of the cold medications. The bill now goes to the Senate.
