Blount Gets 4 Years, 4 Months For Bribing Ex-Mayor

Tuscaloosa, AL – A federal judge has sentenced former Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Bill Blount to four years and four months in prison for bribing ousted Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford.

U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler imposed the sentence on the Montgomery investment banker shortly after sentencing co-defendant Al LaPierre to four years in prison Friday. LaPierre is a former executive director of the state party and a former lobbyist from Birmingham.

The judge waived the government's request for $5.5 million in restitution from both men.

Blount and LaPierre provided key testimony that resulted in Langford's conviction on 60 felony charges last fall.
