Legislators Begin Work on State Budgets

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – State budgets are in the spotlight at the Alabama Statehouse.

The House Education Appropriations Committee is meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday to begin work on the state education budget. The Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee is meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to craft the General Fund budget.

Budget work is beginning later than normal because lawmakers have waited to see how many federal dollars Alabama might receive for the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.

Legislative leaders say the budgets will be a priority in the nine meeting days left in the legislative session.
