Legislators Told Of Probe Into Ala. Bingo Bill

Montgomery, AL – Top Alabama legislators have been called into a meeting with state and federal investigators and told a probe is being conducted into the electronic bingo bill in the Legislature.

The speaker of the House, the House majority and minority leaders, the lieutenant governor, and the Senate majority and minority leaders met with the state Public Safety director and representatives of the U.S. Justice Department and U.S. Attorney's Office on Thursday afternoon.

Senate Majority Leader Zeb Little said the investigators told them the meeting was set up as a courtesy to inform them of the investigation. Little says he hopes the meeting wasn't designed to put a chilling effect on the bingo legislation.

House Minority Leader Rep. Mike Hubbard said after the meeting he warned House Republicans not to take anything of value in exchange for a vote.
