Ala. Senate OKs Compromise On $1 Billion Road Plan

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Senate has approved a compromise to a $1 billion road construction plan.

A legislative conference committee recommended a compromise Wednesday that would provide $100 million a year for 10 years for road construction. But it reduced the many special projects that had been included in the House version of the plan.

The compromise version does have a few projects, including $20 million for mass transit in the Birmingham area, $5 million for the State Docks in Mobile, and $1 million for an Interstate 10 connector at Dothan.

The Senate approved the compromise 25-8 Wednesday afternoon. Now it's up to the House to consider the plan.
