NWS Says 6 Tornado Tracks In Ala., Winds Up To 150 mph

Albertville, AL – Forecasters say there were six different tornado tracks through north Alabama with winds up to 150 mph over the weekend.

Gov. Bob Riley toured the damage in the Albertville area on Monday. He said it appeared the tornado cut a path a half-mile to a mile wide from Albertville to Geraldine.

He says the damage is being assessed to request federal assistance and no determination has been made about reopening school.

An assessment by the National Weather Service showed that an EF-3 twister that hurt more than 30 people in Marshall and DeKalb counties Saturday night had peak winds of 140 mph. It was on the ground for about 18.5 miles and was three-quarters of a mile wide at its largest.
