Ala. Lawmaker Cites Inappropriate Bingo Message

Montgomery, AL – A tape recording of a cell phone conversation between Victoryland casino owner Milton McGregor and lobbyist Bob Geddie has been played to a state legislator in front of a federal grand jury in Montgomery.

Republican Rep. David Grimes of Montgomery said Thursday that McGregor and Geddie were talking about how Grimes would vote on a bill to authorize and tax electronic bingo.

Grimes said the conversation centered on whether Grimes was wavering on how to vote on the bingo bill. Grimes said he opposed the bill.

Grimes said he found it frightening that federal prosecutors had a tape of the cell phone conversation. He said ``nasty things'' were said about him on the recording.

Neither McGregor nor Geddie immediately responded to requests for comment.
