Ala. Unemployment Rate Holds at 11 Percent

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's unemployment rate is remaining steady at 11 percent.

State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees announced Friday there was no change from March to April.

Surtees says there has been relatively little change in Alabama's unemployment picutre in the last six months, and he's cautiously optimistic that the rise in unemployment has ceased.

Counties with the highest unemployment rates were Wilcox at 24.5 percent; Monroe at 20.0 percent, and Dallas at 18.7 percent. Counties with the lowest rates were Madison at 7.6 percent and Shelby and Coffee at 7.7 percent.
