New Figures Show Ala. Crime Rate Falling

Montgomery, AL – A new report says Alabama law enforcement agencies reported a 6 percent overall decrease in crimes in the state last year.

The report by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center says the number of violent crimes fell by 1 percent in 2009.

The annual Crime in Alabama report shows a 16 percent decrease in the number of motor vehicle thefts.

It also reports decreases in each of the violent crime categories of homicide, rape and robbery, but an increase in aggravated assault.
