Montgomery, AL – County election officials and county Republican chairmen are gathering in Montgomery on Friday to go over procedures for the statewide recount in the Republican race for governor.
Republican Party spokesman Philip Bryan says the party invited officials to the meeting because most have never been through a recount.
The state's chief election official, Secretary of State Beth Chapman, says she will be there to answer questions, along with a representative of the company that provides election equipment to counties.
Tim James has requested a recount in all 67 counties after finishing in third place, 167 votes behind Robert Bentley. The recount will determine whether Bentley or James advances to the runoff July 13 against first-place finisher Bradley Byrne.
The GOP hopes to finish the recount midweek.
