AG Says Byrne, Bentley In GOP Runoff; James Unsure

Montgomery, AL – Attorney General Troy King has advised the state's top election official that the names of Bradley Byrne and Robert Bentley should appear on the Republican runoff ballot for governor on July 13.

King issued an advisory opinion that said Tim James, who finished in third place just 167 votes behind Bentley, could use a recount to file an election contest with the Republican Party after a nominee has been picked July 13.

James, who has asked for a recount, said later Friday that King had put ``a kink in the process.'' He said a recount is legal, but he will wait till Monday to decide if he will continue to pursue one.
