Ala. GOP Chairman Calls AG's Opinion 'Crazy'

Montgomery, AL – The chairman of Alabama's Republican Party calls Attorney General Troy King's opinion on the GOP recount ``crazy.''

Mike Hubbard says the party was prepared to conduct the recount sought by third-place finisher Tim James until King issued his opinion. The opinion says the top two candidates - Bradley Byrne and Robert Bentley - go on the runoff ballot July 13. Then James could use a recount to contest the results.

Hubbard questions why the party would want to go through a recount if it couldn't be used until after the runoff. He said that could put the party in a position of taking the nomination away from someone, and the party wants to avoid that.
