Montgomery, AL – Governor Bob Riley has appointed a law enforcement agent with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and a former Northport police officer to be the sheriff of Greene County.
Thirty-one-year-old George Cook spent nine years in the Army before beginning a career in law enforcement. He's spent the past year as an ABC Enforcement Agent based in Tuscaloosa.
Before that, he spent three years as a police officer with the Northport Police Department and as a detention officer at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
Riley says he's ``extremely well-qualified'' and that he believes Cook will serve the community well.
