Ala. Teen To Be Tried As Adult In School Killing

Huntsville, AL – A 14-year-old north Alabama boy has been certified to stand trial as an adult for murder in the shooting death of a ninth-grade classmate in a hallway of their middle school.

Madison County District Judge Lynn Sherrod ruled Friday that Hammad Memon must be tried in adult court on the criminal charge in the Feb. 5 shooting death of 14-year-old Todd Brown at Discovery Middle School in Madison.

The judge ordered Memon held on a $75,000 bond.

He has been in custody as a juvenile. Under Alabama's youthful offender law, his name was withheld until certified to stand trial as an adult in criminal court.
