High-Risk Insurance Applications Now Available

Montgomery, AL – Uninsured Alabamians with health problems are now eligible to apply for temporary high-risk insurance.

The program is part of President Barack Obama's health care reform law

State Insurance Commissioner Jim Ridling says the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance program will be federally administered in Alabama. Monthly premiums will range from $514 to $628 for a 50-year-old, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

To qualify you must have been uninsured for at least the last six months and have had a problem getting insurance due to a pre-existing condition. Consumer advocates are urging uninsured people with health problems to sign up soon because they can't be turned away for medical reasons.

Applications can be downloaded and printed online at www.pcip.gov.
