Limestone to Get Bulk of Prison Renovation Money

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The Limestone Correctional Facility will get about $12.6 million as part of a $98 million renovation of state prison facilities - more dollars than any Alabama prison.

At the Limestone Correctional Facility authorities will spend $4.7 million on boilers, and millions more on things like air handlers, fencing and cameras.

A study conducted for the state Department of Corrections in 2007 showed the agency needed about $94 million in maintenance and repair work.

Prison Commissioner Richard Allen says the renovation will let the department fix things that have been broken for years.

About $77 million will be generated through long-term, lease-purchase financing and $21 million will come from a federal stimulus grant.
