Tuscaloosa, AL – Today Alabama Public Radio continues a series of conversations on the condition of Alabama's Gulf Coast as the Deepwater Horizon spill continues to unfold. Dr. John Valentine is a marine scientist with the Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Mobile County. He talks with APR Morning Edition host Brandon Hollingsworth about tropical storms, the environment and protecting the Intracoastal Waterway.

The discussion began with an explanation of the role barrier islands play in helping block oil from reaching sensitive inland bodies of water.
