Ala. Unemployed Can File For Benefits Extension

Montgomery, AL – Out-of-work Alabama residents whose unemployment benefits have run out should file for an extension.

Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees made the announcement in light of Congress this week passing a bill to reinstate unemployment compensation benefits extensions.

Surtees says claims would be paid retroactive to June 5. State officials estimate 37,000 Alabamians may be eligible for an extension.

To certify eligibility for claims, people are asked to call 1-800-752-7389 or go online to www.dir.alabama.gov.
