Montgomery, AL – Ohio-based GE Aviation plans to build a coatings plant for military jet engines in Alabama at a site that will be determined within three months.

Compamy President David Joyce and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley made the announcement Wednesday at the Capitol. Joyce said the plant will employ 300 to 400 people and will open in 2012.

Several officials from Tuscaloosa, Tallapoosa, Lee and Macon Counties attended the announcement. They said they hoped to land the plant for their areas.

Joyce said the plant would operate in collaboration with Alabama universities. Top executives of the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Tuskegee University were present.

GE Aviation is based in Cincinnati.
