Birmingham, AL – A new study ranks Birmingham as the ninth most stressful city in the country, based on factors including unemployment, crime and health risks.
The study, which ranked Detroit as the most stressful, was conducted for the online business news magazine Portfolio. It examined demographic factors in the 50 largest metropolitan areas.
Joshua Klapow, a clinical psychologist in the school of public health at UAB, says the findings are based on circumstances, like crime, that historically are associated with stress. But he says stress is in the eye of the beholder.
