Sparks' Ad Shows Bentley's Remarks On Ala. Lottery

Montgomery, AL – Ron Sparks' new ad for governor catches opponent Robert Bentley at what Bentley acknowledges was not his best moment.

The Democrat's ad shows Bentley at a candidate forum Aug. 26 in Arab. The candidates were debating Sparks' plan to legalize a state lottery and use part of the proceeds for college scholarships. Bentley told the audience that college education was their responsibility. He also asked why should the government have to pay for a child to go to college?

Bentley responded to the ad Thursday by saying comments sometimes differ from what's intended. He says he wants Alabama children to pursue as much education as they would like, but a lottery would be detrimental to the state.

Sparks says the ad is designed to demonstrate differences between the candidates.
