Birmingham, AL – Top state officials are giving an excellent bill of health to a state program that gives free health screenings to more than 52,000 school children in Alabama.
The program, known as KidCheck, was created in 2008 to increase health care access in rural or underserved parts of the state.
Gov. Bob Riley and State School Superintendent Joe Morton plan to attend an event Tuesday in Birmingham celebrating the achievements of KidCheck.
Under the program, schools set aside a day during the school year for free health screenings, and parents receive a written report of the results. Local KidCheck coordinators make sure parents of all uninsured children have access to the joint public health insurance application.
