Montgomery, AL – Alabama's unemployment remained steady in October at 8.9 percent.
State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees announced the rate Friday and said it's the ninth month that Alabama hasn't seen an increase in unemployment.
The October rate is below the current national rate of 9.6 percent and well below last year's state figure of 10.8 percent.
Counties with the lowest unemployment are Shelby at 6.8 percent and Coffee and Madison at 7.1 percent. Counties with the highest rates are Wilcox at 20.1 percent, Greene at 18.4 percent, and Dallas at 17.2 percent.
