Love, Armistead Vie For Alabama GOP Chairman

Montgomery, AL – State Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery and former state Sen. Bill Armistead of Columbiana are competing to be the next chairman of the Alabama Republican Party.

The party's executive committee meets Feb. 19 in Montgomery to elect a replacement for state Rep. Mike Hubbard of Auburn, who led the party to a big victory on Nov. 2. Hubbard is not seeking re-election because he expects to be the next speaker of the House.

Armistead says he wants to focus the party on keeping the campaign commitments made this year so that voters will want to elect more Republicans in 2012. Love says he will concentrate on electing more Republicans to offices in county courthouses in 2012 and on making sure Republicans get treated fairly in redistricting.
