Huntsville, AL – Temperatures briefly rose above freezing Tuesday after two days of wintry weather snarled traffic and prompted unexpected holidays for thousands of workers and students, but not for long enough to end the lingering threat of slippery roads.
Most of the remaining slush melted away in central Alabama, but a blanket of snow still covered grassy areas, housetops, roadsides and bridges across the Tennessee Valley.
The region received six inches or more of snow and ice Sunday and Monday, and the weather service reported snow totals of as much as 10 inches in northwest Alabama.
Temperatures inched above freezing in many areas by midday, helping ease travel concerns.
