Birmingham, AL – Gambling interests pumped nearly $6.3 million into Alabama's 2010 elections.
An analysis by The Birmingham News shows that 144 political action committees handled contributions from gambling sources.
The newspaper analyzed campaign finance reports that showed the Poarch Creek Indians and their PCI Gaming donated $2.76 million. Dog track operator Milton McGregor followed with $1.94 million. Greenetrack provided more than $564,000. Country Crossing developer Ronnie Gilley and others associated with the project donated more than $824,000.
Some money went directly to candidates, mostly Democrats, but other money was run through a series of PACs.
