Suspicious Letter Found At Ala. University

Florence, AL – A threatening letter containing a suspicious substance has prompted the shutdown of a building at the University of North Alabama in Florence.

Authorities say a threatening letter addressed to a faculty member was received on the fifth floor of Stevens Hall at the North Alabama campus Thursday afternoon.

Three university staff members are being decontaminated, and police and a Colbert County hazardous materials team are working to identify the material.

All classes in the building have been canceled for the rest of the day, and Stevens Hall is closed until tomorrow.
