Montgomery, AL – Alabama First Lady Dianne Bentley spoke to abortion opponents at a Statehouse rally Thursday to encourage legislators to support six bills that would restrict the procedure in the state.
Over 150 people gathered at the demonstration, holding signs and cheering as representatives spoke about bills they hope will make significant changes in state abortion laws. Bentley says anyone considering an abortion should put their child up for adoption instead.
The bills under consideration at the Statehouse would redefine terms of abortion procedures as well as insurance and health care provider policies.
The rally was held one day after the House Health Committee approved a bill that will ban elective abortions occurring 20 weeks from conception. Alabama is among the states where abortion opponents are trying to pass new restrictions.
