Huntsville, AL – NASA is eliminating as many as 300 contractor jobs at its Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville.
Center spokesman Dominic Amatore told The Huntsville Times on Wednesday that a combination of factors led to the layoffs. He cites the lack of a federal budget for this year, continued funding by stop-gap measures and cuts in this year's budget including nearly $300 million removed from the line-item that funds general operations at all of NASA's centers.
Marshall estimates the cuts at between 150 and 300 people who will be laid off by the end of May.
Marshall lost hundreds more contractor jobs last year when NASA shut down the Constellation rocket program, which was one of the center's major projects.
Marshall is NASA's primary rocket propulsion center.
