Hearing Set For Ala. Company In Infection Outbreak

Columbiana, AL – A judge says he will make sure a Birmingham company is free to cooperate with investigators looking into an infectious outbreak at six Alabama hospitals.

Shelby County Circuit Judge Hewitt Conwill said during a hearing Friday that he will change an earlier order and make it clearer that Meds IV can release information to state and federal investigators.

Conwill held the hearing concerning a lawsuit involving Meds IV, the Birmingham company that officials say produced intravenous feeding bags that led to bacterial contamination. Nine people died and 10 more got sick after receiving feeding liquids from the company.

A judge had issued an earlier order barring Meds IV from destroying or moving documents and other potential evidence that could be used in lawsuits.
