Prattville, AL – The National Weather Service says the storm system that killed seven people and caused extensive damage over the southern two-thirds of the state may have generated more than 30 tornadoes.
The weather service is studying the tracks of the storms to get an exact number, but meteorologists say there were 15 to 20 tornadoes in central Alabama and about a dozen in south Alabama.
The weather service has given an EF3 classification to the tornado that killed three people in Autauga County. It had winds of 140 mph. The weather service says it also expects to give an EF3 classification to the tornado that killed three people in Washington County. The storm that killed an elderly man in Marengo County is still being studied.
