Many Officials To Testify In Ala. Gambling Trial

Montgomery, AL – The list of potential witnesses for Alabama's gambling corruption trial includes many present and former officials.

Attorneys for the prosecution and defense asked potential jurors Monday if they know some of the people who may testify during the lengthy trial.

An attorney for VictoryLand casino operator Milton McGregor said his witnesses could include former Gov. Bob Riley, House Speaker Mike Hubbard, former U.S. attorney Leura Canary and the sponsors of electronic bingo legislation, Sen. Roger Bedford and Rep. Marcel Black.

Prosecutor Justin Shur says his witnesses could include three legislators who wore recording devices during the investigation: Sen. Scott Beason, Rep. Barry Mask and former Rep. Benjamin Lewis. The prosecution may also call Sen. Paul Sanford, former Rep. Terry Spicer and former Sen. Lowell Barron.
