Birmingham, AL – A report of donations to the 2012 presidential campaign shows Alabamians have sent more than $212,000 to eight declared candidates, led by President Barack Obama.
The Federal Election Commission's data about Alabama shows Obama's donors tend to give frequently in small amounts, while Republican Mitt Romney, who's second, has fewer donors but with many giving the $2,500 maximum in one check.
Obama is the sole declared Democratic candidate. He collected $73,963 from 92 donors in Alabama in the second quarter of the year. His report shows 92 individuals made 150 donations, some as small as $5.
By contrast, 49 people in Alabama made 51 donations to Romney's campaign totaling $71,550.
Trailing Romney was Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who raised about $26,000. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty took in $17,350.
