Alabama Demonstrators To Protest Immigration Law

Montgomery, AL – Demonstrations are planned in Montgomery and in Birmingham to protest Alabama's new law that has been described by supporters and opponents as the nation's toughest crackdown on illegal immigration.

The organization Vamos Together has scheduled a march and rally from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in downtown Montgomery to protest the new law, which is scheduled to take effect Thursday. Organizers said the march would begin near the fountain in downtown Montgomery up Dexter Avenue to the Alabama Capitol.

On Thursday, a demonstration sponsored by Greater Birmingham Ministries and other civil rights groups is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Birmingham's Linn Park between the Jefferson County Courthouse and city hall.
