Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley says he will tour two storm-damaged areas on Tuesday.
Bentley says he will be in northern Jefferson County on Tuesday morning and then go to the Chilton County town of Maplesville on Tuesday afternoon. Bentley said he didn't go to the areas Monday because he didn't want to be in the way of rescue teams and utility repair crews.
The governor says photos of some damaged neighborhoods in northern Jefferson County are reminiscent of the April 2, 2011, tornadoes, but the damage is not nearly as widespread.
Bentley says Monday's storms proved that community safe rooms work. A tree top hit a steel shelter holding more than 50 people next door to the Maplesville fire department, and no one was injured.
