Job Creation Bills Again Top Agenda In Ala. House

Montgomery, AL – Creating new jobs will again be at the top of the agenda in the House when the Alabama Legislature comes back into session Tuesday.

The House adjourned last week while debating a bill that would allow businesses in some cases to use income tax withheld from employees for expansion or for construction of new facilities. The bill was supported by Republican leaders who argue it would create new jobs. It was opposed by the Alabama Education Association and some Democrats who say it would take away money earmarked for education.

Other bills expected to come up Tuesday in the House include a measure to strengthen the penalties for unemployment fraud and a bill to offer incentives for hiring veterans. Another bill that could come up would ban texting while driving.
