Montgomery, AL – The jury in Alabama's gambling corruption trial didn't reach a verdict during its sixth day of deliberations and will try again Wednesday.
The sequestered jurors quit work about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and will resume work at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The jurors smiled and chatted when they left the jury room at the federal courthouse. Defense attorney Susan James said the jury appears not to have any conflict or hostility.
The jury is considering charges against casino owner Milton McGregor, state Sen. Harri Anne Smith, former Sens. Larry Means and Jim Preuitt, casino lobbyist Tom Coker and casino spokesman Jay Walker. They face 27 charges accusing them of buying and selling votes for legislation designed to protect electronic bingo casinos from a state crackdown in 2010.
