Tuscaloosa Could See $5M In Construction Projects

Tuscaloosa, AL – The Tuscaloosa mayor has unveiled a $5 million list of construction projects nearly a year after the city was partially destroyed by a massive tornado.

The city council is expected to vote this week on whether to approve the 17 items that Mayor Walt Maddox has proposed. The list includes making renovations to roadways and helping replenish the $6.75 million from the city's reserve fund spent on storm recovery.

He hopes to spend $350,000 to increase downtown parking and $320,000 to convert a former bank building to a precinct for the police department.

The mayor presents his proposed capital projects every year in the spring but last year's list was never handed out because of the deadly April 27 tornado that ripped through town.
